Governance

Governance

Our sustainability strategy prioritizes creating economic value for our shareholders and serving the needs of our clients and employees in a responsible way, that can lead to long-term, positive contributions to the communities in which we operate. We believe that addressing the perspectives of our constituents maximizes the long-term potential of our clients’ portfolios, creating value at scale.

Our approach to governance is grounded in transparency and trust. We pride ourselves on being a responsibly managed company, exemplified in our governance practices and by the standards to which we hold ourselves accountable.

“Our success at Apollo is grounded in good governance. This responsibility starts with our Board of Directors and strong leadership team, who are committed to setting a strong tone at the top.”

Yael Levy, Partner, Chief Compliance Officer

Environment

Apollo strives to enable more sustainable operations and be a catalyst for improved ESG performance and data management. We are proactively working to reduce our own operational footprint while integrating relevant climate risk considerations, as well as accelerating our capabilities for decarbonization and investment-related financed emissions reporting, where applicable. A highlight of our efforts was achieving carbon-neutral operations for 2022 Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions across our global corporate offices.*

2022 Operational Energy and Emissions Footprint

In 2022, Apollo reported operational energy and emissions footprint data representative of both Apollo Asset Management, Inc. (“AAM”), our alternative asset management business and Athene Holding Ltd. (“Athene”), our retirement services business. This marks a new baseline for future reporting periods.

ESG Integration at Apollo

ESG Integration at Apollo

We believe that managing relevant ESG risks and realizing opportunities make us better investors and stewards of our investors’ capital. This approach also helps position Apollo-managed funds' portfolio companies and other investments for potential sustainable financial success.

Apollo’s equity business strategy seeks to drive value across Apollo-managed funds’ portfolio companies, which helps create value for our clients and can result in positive impacts for people, the planet, and communities.

Our largest segment by assets under management, Apollo’s credit strategy spans the full financing universe across private and public markets. We have built an ESG Credit platform that equips and empowers our investment professionals, not only those with ESG in their title.

Apollo’s infrastructure business places an emphasis on clean energy, including wind and solar energy, energy storage, and energy efficiency services. The platform employs a hybrid investment approach, deploying capital across three primary investment pathways, including significant equity investments, corporate carveouts, and structured solutions.

Our Real Estate franchise spans across the spectrum of equity, hybrid, and yield. Our Real Estate vertical works in close collaboration with Apollo’s businesses and utilizes the same value-driven approach to source, underwrite, and structure transactions. Within the Real Estate vertical, ESG incorporation generally begins with identifying relevant issues in the due diligence and underwriting process.

Note: While Apollo believes that considering ESG risks may improve performance, not all Apollo strategies promote ESG characteristics or limit their investments to those that satisfy certain ESG criteria.

Our Strategies

Sustainable Investing Platform

Apollo’s Sustainable Investing Platform combines our long-standing commitment to ESG with our experience in sustainability, clean energy, and climate capital investing. Through the Platform, Apollo-managed funds provide capital to entities contributing to the energy transition, industrial decarbonization, sustainable mobility, sustainable resource use and sustainable real estate.

Apollo Impact Mission

The Apollo Impact Mission Platform (“AIM”) seeks to achieve meaningful impact at scale. We do this by pursuing private-equity–like opportunities with the intention of making a positive, measurable social and environmental impact while seeking to generate attractive risk-adjusted returns. We adhere to a rigorous impact investment philosophy that targets investments centered around two critical objectives: helping people and healing the planet.
